Gary William Crawford is a poet, short story writer and scholar of Gothic literature. He is the author of five books of poetry, including the Stoker nominated books The Shadow City and The Phantom World, and the retrospective collection Voices from the Dark. He is the author of the short story collections Gothic Fevers and Mysteries of Von Domarus. He has authored the scholarly books Ramsey Campbell, Robert Aickman: An Introduction and J. Sheridan Le Fanu: A Bio-Bibliography. With Jim Rockhill and Brian J. Showers he has edited Reflections in a Glass Darkly: Essays on J. Sheridan Le Fanu. He has written numerous essays in such books as Horror Literature: A Core Collection and Reference Guide, Survey of Modern Fantasy, The Penguin Encyclopedia of Horror and the Supernatural, The Encyclopedia of the Vampire, Fritz Leiber: Critical Essays, Discovering Modern Horror Fiction I and II, and Discovering Classic Horror Fiction. With Brian J. Showers he has compiled Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu: A Concise Bibliography, which recasts in abbreviated form Crawford's bibliography from Greenwood Press. He has edited the journal Gothic, the horror poetry magazine Night Songs, and now the free online journal Le Fanu Studies. His poems, short stories, and essays have appeared in such magazines and e-zines as Star*Line, Fantasy Commentator, Horrorstruck, Dreams and Nightmares, Fantasy Tales, Bewildering Stories, Eldritch Tales, The Gothic Revue, and Dark Horizons.
He has a number of essays on J. Sheridan Le Fanu in the free online journal Le Fanu Studies. He is the author of the Mississippi State University M.A. Thesis, "Sheridan Le Fanu's In a Glass Darkly: Ironic Distance and the Supernatural," 1977.
He has co-authored with Bruce Boston the book of horror poetry Notes from the Shadow City that will be published by Dark Regions Press in 2012. The Dark Regions website is www.darkregions.com. He is also currently editing a chapbook of essays about Robert Aickman for publication by Gothic Press. From Scarecrow Press he is editing with Phillip A. Ellis a collection of essays on Ramsey Campbell. Also from Scarecrow he is writing a critical study of Robert Aickman.
